Nitte Institute of Nursing, Deralakatte

The Nitte Institute of Nursing Sciences began both the School of Nursing (SON) with an intake of 27 students and College of Nursing (CON) with 6 students at the Padmashree Hospital, Nanthoor. The founder principal of SON was Mrs. Mable Alexander while Ms. Lt. Col. Manjusha Chakraborthy was the founder principal of CON.
In 2001, the Institute shifted to its own campus at Paneer, about 2 kms from KSHEMA at Deralakatte. The Institute was renamed as Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences in memory of late Dr.(Mrs.) Usha Punja, in the year 2002.

The Institute offers a 4 year Basic B.Sc (N) Degree program under the Mangalore University, Konaje and a 3 year Diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) under the KSDNEB, Bangalore. The degree program is affiliated to the RGUHS, Bangalore. The Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Karnataka Nursing Council (KNC).

The M.Sc Nursing program which started in 2004 with 2 specialities, Medical Surgical Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing was a milestone for the college. The Institute also plans to start soon, PG courses in other disciplines such as Child Health Nursing, Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing, Maternity Nursing and Community Health Nursing.
